I am Local 6: Trish Pickett prepares for Iron Mom Half Marathon

The length of a half marathon is 13.1 miles. It’s certainly not an easy feat to accomplish, and the training for it can be grueling for the runner.  However, Trish Pickett is ready to lace up her sneakers and run her first half marathon.

"I’m going to turn 50 in September, and have my first grand baby, why not top it off with a half marathon?" Pickett said. "God has blessed me to be able to do this."

Pickett is participating in the Iron Mom Paducah Half Marathon Saturday, May 7. This year’s run benefits the Family Service Society.

She works with Head Start for Ballard County Schools and understands how important these kind of organizations are in the community.

"Without support, groups like that, our community wouldn’t function as well.  And our families wouldn’t thrive," Pickett said. She said, although she’s nervous for the race, she hopes her training pays off.

"I’m nervous that I won’t be able to finish, but I’ve had a lot of support and encouragement along the way and a lot of training, so I hope that I will." Pickett said.

The Family Service Society helps people in Paducah and McCracken County by for providing basic needs including food, clothing, medications, utility assistance and household goods.

The Iron Mom Paducah Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay starts at 7 a.m. on May 7. There is still time to register for an individual or a team.
