Local mail carrier pleads guilty to mail theft

A former Carbondale mail carrier pleaded guilty to mail theft.

36-year-old Michelle Leggans of Murphysboro admitted to stealing two items of mail while working as a postal mail carrier for the Carbondale Post Office in 2012.

She stole a gift card from Kohl’s Department Store and a parcel from eBay.

On Thursday she pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of mail theft.

Sentencing has been set for August 10.

Leggans will face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
