Kentucky crews installing cable barrier on I-24

A contractor plans to install a median cable barrier along a section of Interstate 24 through parts of Lyon, Caldwell, and Trigg counties starting Monday, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says at first drivers should be alert for median shoulder closures along the eastbound lanes of I-24 starting mile point 51.287 near the Kentucky 903 overpass in Lyon County extending eastward through Caldwell County and Trigg County to mile point 69.832 at the Trigg County/Christian County line.

Todd says work along the 18.5-mile section of I-24 will ramp up over the next week or two to include lane restrictions along both eastbound and westbound lanes at multiple locations.

The work zone will have a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced law enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

Todd notes that placement of cable barriers is determined by traffic volume and crash data.
