Education commissioner asks Kentuckians to recognize teachers online

Tuesday is National Teacher Appreciation Day, and Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt is asking Kentuckians to join him in recognizing and celebrating teachers as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week.

National Teacher Appreciation Week runs through May 6.

“Teachers play such an important role in a child’s life. They teach us to think and reason, they are our supporters and they are the people who push us to be better,” said Pruitt in a news release Tuesday.

Pruitt said there are 40,000 teachers in Kentucky, making memories and influencing children.

Throughout May, the Kentucky Department of Education is asking Kentuckians to share stories of the teachers who have influenced their lives and the lives of their children on Twitter with the hashtag #thankaKYteacher. KDE says it will be share those tweets throughout May to recognize both Teacher Appreciation Week and Teacher Appreciation Month.
