Police set up perimeter to capture man wanted for attempted murder
POPE Co, IL —
Police now say they have a perimeter set up in an effort to capture Dracy “Clint” Pendleton.
Scharlow has been recovering from a shot to his arm, but Pendleton is still on the run.
Police say Pendleton may be armed with an AK-47.
On Monday, surrounding law enforcement agencies set up a command center in Pope County, Illinois.
Several agencies, including Illinois State Police, local sheriff’s offices, and the U.S. Marshals are stationed at the command center.
Police say there are other units posted around area roads as well.
It took police a long time to set up a perimeter to contain Pendleton, but they believe all their resources are now in place.
Illinois State Police Captain William Sons said the Shawnee National Forest terrain made their job much more difficult.
Police also told Local 6 to hold back on reporting this information in order to keep law enforcement safe if Pendleton did find out.
I spoke to some neighbors they wish they knew more information.
Sherry and John Shanahan said, "When you’re hanging around the house you don’t have the doors locked or anything just sitting and relaxing you don’t expect anything like that down the road."
Sons said they have not made contact with Pendleton since setting up the perimeter. But he says no other officers have been injured.
Police say Pendleton may be driving a truck, a possibly stolen white 2007 GMC pick up truck with Illinois registration 165533B.
Anyone with information is asked to call 217-384-TIPS.
If you see Pendleton, you are asked to call 911.
