Bevin calls Stumbo’s lawsuit a ‘charade’
Republican Gov. Matt Bevin’s spokeswoman says a lawsuit challenging his vetoes of the state budget is petty, political and a waste of taxpayer money.
Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo sued Bevin on Wednesday, asking a judge to throw out Bevin’s vetoes on portions of the state’s $68 billion operating budget because the vetoes were not properly filed with the Secretary of State’s office.
The lawsuit comes one month after Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear also sued Bevin for his decision to cut the budgets of state colleges and universities this year without the approval of the state legislature.
In a news release, Bevin spokeswoman Jessica Ditto said both lawsuits are intent on thwarting Bevin’s efforts to fix Kentucky’s finances.
