One person killed in three vehicle crash

One person died in a three vehicle crash Wednesday morning.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department says the crash happened just after 8:00 a.m. near mile marker 92 on Interstate 55 southbound.

This is between exits 91 and 93 near Cape Girardeau.

Police say a semi crashed with a Nissan Armada and that the Armada hit a Chevrolet Blazer. The semi continued and hit the Blazer, causing the Blazer to be pushed into the median.

The Blazer overturned, ejecting the driver and passenger.

Both driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital. At the hospital the passenger was declared deceased.

The driver was later taken to a St. Louis hospital and was last reported in critical condition.

The name of the passenger is not being released at this time pending family notification.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
