IL man arrested with large amounts of synthetic marijuana in McCracken Co.

An Illinois man was arrested in McCracken County for selling synthetic marijuana.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says over the past year several people have been charged with possessing and selling synthetic marijuana.

Detectives have found that most of that synthetic marijuana was being brought into McCracken County from Cairo and Mounds, Illinois.

In May, detectives found a possible source of the synthetic marijuana. They got a tip that 28-year-old Hamed Omar of Mounds would be delivering a quantity of the drug to a business parking lot in McCracken County of May 19.

Detectives found Omar in the parking lost at 3245 Benton Road. They stopped him and found 406 bags of synthetic marijuana in his SUV.

Also inside the SUV was $4,916 in cash suspected to be from drug sales and a loaded 9mm handgun.

Omar was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. He has been charged with firearm enhanced trafficking in synthetic drug and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
