Former inmate files paperwork to sue the city of Paducah

A former inmate has filed paperwork to sue the city of Paducah.

Joseph Cerullo’s attorney filed a lawsuit in district court.  Cerullo was under arrest at the time former Paducah police officer Michael Redmon was accused of choking him.

The Paducah Board of Commissioners fired Redmon last year after they found that he did use excessive force against Cerullo.  Cerullo filed a lawsuit against Redmon shortly after the decision.

This all comes after Redmon continues to fight for his job back. Attorneys presented arguments to Judge Kaltenbach this morning to see if a higher court would hear Redmon’s case.

Redmon’s attorney argued that the board didn’t follow protocol in the hearing where they fired Redmon.  Paducah police chief Brandon Barnhill’s attorney argued that the board’s decision was not arbitrary.

There is no word on when Judge Kaltenbach will make a decision on having a second hearing.
