State police investigating inmate found dead in Jackson County Jail
UPDATE: The Jackson County, Illinois, Coroner’s Office has identified an inmate whose death at the county jail is being investigated as a homicide.
The coroner’s office says 31-year-old Collin Korlarz was found dead in his cell Thursday morning. Korlarz was originally from Waverly, Tennessee.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
The death of an inmate at the Jackson County, Illinois, jail is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office says a 31-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell around 6:44 a.m. Thursday by a correctional deputy making routine cell checks. A second inmate in that cell was removed and isolated in a different part of the jail, and the jail was placed on lockdown to protect other inmates and staff.
The sheriff’s office says it has contacted the Illinois State Police to investigate the death, and the Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s Office has been appointed as prosecutor in the investigation.
The name of the inmate was not released.
