Liquor store opens for Memorial Day weekend

This Memorial Day weekend will be the first holiday in Marshall County for liquor sales, and local businesses are looking forward to the change.

The Cellar Door in Draffinville, Kentucky, just opened on Wednesday.

Employees have the shelves stocked and ready for lake goers.

Co-owner Brian Edwards says they’re ready to meet the rush.

"Everybody is excited," says Edwards. "Now that they have a convenient location to go to, they don’t have to spend their money in a different district, they’re happy to invest back into the community."

Edwards predicts they’ll go through more beer than anything else, which is why he says he stocked up just in case.

County leaders will begin deciding next Tuesday how the revenue generated by the alcohol sales will be spent.
