State police investigate body found in garbage truck in Jonesboro, Ill.

The Illinois State Police and its crime scene team are in Union County, Illinois, investigating the death of a person whose body was found in a garbage truck Friday morning in Jonesboro. 

The Union County coroner tells Local 6 he was called out to the Jonesboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center around 7 a.m., but investigators were there much earlier.

The body was found inside a Republic Services garbage truck at the the Jonesboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. The truck was at the health care center to empty their dumpster when the driver realized there was a body inside the truck and called investigators.

The body has been removed from the garbage truck, and the truck has been moved to a different location.

The Union County Sheriff Department is assisting ISP with the investigation. 

The coroner tells Local 6’s Rachael Krause he is waiting to hear from his pathologist so they can schedule an autopsy of the body. Rachael will have more on this story on Local 6 at Five.
