Local 6 states low on ranking of best and worst for military retirees

Retirement is considered to be a person’s golden years, but that’s not the case for military retirees.

WalletHub reports the average age for an officer upon retirement from service is 47. How does our area do when treating retired service members? Not that great.

Missouri is the only state in our area that made it into the top half in the overall ranking at 20, and Tennessee is next at 32. At 40, Kentucky is in the lowest 10, along with Illinois at 41.

The states with the most job opportunities for military retirees include Iowa at the top of the list, followed by Indiana, Hawaii, South Dakota and Utah.
