Kentucky trooper involved in fatal crash with motorcycle

Kentucky State Police say a motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a trooper.

A statement from police says the crash happened Thursday evening as Trooper Jeremy Moore was looking in the Lost Creek community of Perry County for an all-terrain vehicle with a possibly intoxicated driver.

Police said Moore’s 2011 Ford Crown Victoria collided with the 2003 Yamaha motorcycle when the trooper came upon a sudden, narrow curve "with no visible center line" in the road.

The driver of the motorcycle, 49-year-old Douglas Miller of Dice, was taken to Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 35-year-old Karen Amburgey of Hazard, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Moore was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
