89-year-old woman killed in Murray wreck

Murray police say an 89-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon on South 12th Street.

Officers responded to the scene around 12:44 p.m. Friday to find a 2012 Chevy Impala overturned in a ditch next to a South 12th Street parking lot.

The driver, 89-year-old Charlene Lyons of Murray, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calloway County Coroner’s Office.

The Murray Police Department says Lyons was pulling onto South 12th Street from the parking lot when the Impala suddenly sped up and turned back toward the parking lot. Police say it then drove through a fence and overturned into the ditch.

Murray-Calloway County EMS and the Murray Fire Department also responded to the wreck.
