Portion of local interstate to be dedicated to fallen state trooper

A portion of Interstate 24 in Kentucky will be dedicated to a fallen state trooper.

On June 22, Kentucky State Police along with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will unveil a sign dedicating Interstate 24 in Lyon County from the Caldwell County line to the intersection with Kentucky Route 293 as the Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder Memorial Highway.

Trooper Ponder was fatally shot on September 13, 2015 while conducting a routine traffic stop on I-24 in Lyon County.

The dedication ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyon Convention Center located at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville, Kentucky.
