Woman hit while walking back to her vehicle after wreck with deer

A 19-year-old woman was hit by the side mirror of a vehicle as she was walking back to her vehicle after an unrelated wreck Thursday, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene around 7:20 p.m. Thursday on Kentucky 1748, just west of U.S. 45 South.

The sheriff’s office says 19-year-old Shawnna Staples of Mayfield had been in a wreck with a deer, and she walked to a nearby home to seek help. Deputies say she was walking along the side of the road, headed back to her vehicle, when she was hit by the side mirror of a passing vehicle.

Deputies say the driver, Christopher Marler of Mayfield, was unable to see Staples because of glare from the sun.

The sheriff’s office says Staples’ injuries were not life threatening, but she was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center.

Mayfield/Graves County EMS assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
