Girls Rock Carbondale camp seeks volunteers
A music summer camp for girls in the Local 6 area says it needs volunteers for this year’s camp, which will be held in July.
Girls Rock Carbondale says it will hold it’s second annual summer rock camp from July 10 to 16. The camp is a program of Carbondale Community Arts. About 30 campers will learn intermediate instrument instruction, teamwork through being in a band, songwriting, and workshops including media literacy, stage performance, zine making and screen printing.
The camp says it’s looking for volunteers for staff positions and other help. It says positions for the actual week of camp are for women only, but positions on camp set up, break down, and showcase days are not gender restricted.
In particular, the camp says it’s looking to interview volunteers who want to teach beginning guitar, intermediate guitar, beginning bass, intermediate bass, beginning piano and intermediate piano. Instrument instructors just have to to teach up to three chords for beginning instruction, and the camp says it provides the curricula. It says musicians with song-writing experience are highly encouraged to apply, even if they’ve ever taught before. Training and support are provided.
