Retrial to begin in Vanderbilt rape case

Opening statements could soon start in the retrial of a former Vanderbilt football player accused in a dorm room rape.
Trial is scheduled to begin Monday for Brandon Vandenburg, a 22-year-old California man who is one of four ex-players charged with the June 2013 sexual assault on campus.
Vandenburg has pleaded not guilty.
He and former player Cory Batey were tried and convicted in the crime last year, but the verdicts were thrown out after lawyers discovered the jury foreman had been a victim of statutory rape. A jury found Batey guilty of aggravated rape and other charges when he was retried in April.
Two other players who are charged have yet to be tried.
