Local health department to hold an emergency preparedness exercise

The Jackson County, Illinois health department is holding an emergency preparedness exercise Wednesday. This is part of the required exercise the department has to hold to test the community’s ability to dispense medical countermeasures to residents. The health department must do this every five years.

The exercise will be based on a scenario that includes the intentional release of a biological agent and requires dispensing medications to every household in Jackson County.

The exercise will be held at the SIU Arena in Carbondale from 12:00 (noon) – 2:00 pm.
