Two arrested in vehicle reported in hit and run

Two Illinois men were arrested Tuesday evening after police stopped a vehicle reported in a hit and run.

The hit and run happened in Williamson County.

Carterville police stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Idaho and Maple around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Two people got out of the vehicle and ran away. They were caught a short distance away.

Police arrested 19-year-old Kameron McElmurry of Mounds and 27-year-old Jerrel Stocksill of Mounds City.

Officers also found more than 1,000 grams of suspected cannabis.

Both are charged with possession of cannabis over 500 grams and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

They were taken to the Williamson County Jail.

An investigation is ongoing.
