Body found at Rend Lake

The Franklin County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a body was found at Rend Lake.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Fleming tells us a fisherman reported the body around 4:11 p.m. Thursday. It was found in shallow water near the shore at the South Marcum Boat Launch. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Investigators found the deceased person’s vehicle submerged in water further from shore, Fleming says. 

An autopsy is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday. 

The person’s identity has not be released, and there is no word yet on whether foul play is suspected. We will bring you more on this story as details emerge.
