Soldier found dead in Fort Campbell creek identified

A soldier whose body was found in a creek at Fort Campbell Tuesday has been identified, the 101st Airborne Division announced Wednesday.

Master Sgt. Kevin Doheny says in a news release Wednesday that 34-year-old Spc. Dhaifal Ali of Arlington, Texas, was swept away by strong currents Friday. The search for Ali went on until his body was found Tuesday by recovery crews. Doheny says Ali was found about 500 meters from the area he was initially swept away at the low water crossing over Little West Fork Creek on Fort Campbell.

Ali was assigned to the 372nd Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade. His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
