Illinois governor to sign Molly’s law today

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner will stop by the Southern Illinois University Transportation Education Center in Murphysboro on Tuesday to sign Molly’s law.

The law is named for Molly Young, the SIU student found dead inside a Carbondale apartment in 2012.

The law changes the statue of limitations to file a wrongful death lawsuit from two to five years.

The law also changes the current fine for public agencies that violate court orders to release information under the freedom of information act.

The new fine is now double, making it $10,000.
