State police investigating deadly house fire
The Kentucky State Police is investigating a house fire in Calloway County Tuesday night where the bodies of a man and woman were found.
We know the identity of the woman: Linda Whittenberg.
An age has not been released for the man, nor his identity.
The home is on Cedar Haven Drive in Calloway County, which is near the Aurora area and close to Kenlake State Resort Park.
There are about seven houses on the street in front of it, where neighbors I talked to say they mostly keep to themselves. And that that’s how the man who lived here was too.
Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, state police say they found Whittenberg’s body. At about 3:30 p.m., they found the body of a man in a detached garage at the back of the home.
Trooper Michael Robichaud says KSP can’t say if the deaths are suspicious or not, but that Whittenberg suffered two gunshot wounds.
"Right now it’s just an ongoing investigation," Robichaud says. "We are just taking a look at every angle."
They dealt with hot spots from the fire most of the day, but around 6 p.m. they were able to start thoroughly searching inside the home.
"We where able to get into the house and start looking around," he says. "So we are going to start taking a look at the scene and seeing what it is, and just, investigation is going to continue from there."
A general area for the start of the fire is under investigation, but KSP says the garage was completely overtaken by the fire.
Crews were still there Tuesday night looking through the property, but they are unable to release any more details about the house fire for now.
A neighbor I talked to told me she heard gunshots before the fire started, but we do not know if that is connected to the fire or have that confirmed by KSP.
As far as the people inside, neighbors say they were kind and that this is a tragic situation.
Neighbors tell us there have been several fires in the area over the past few weeks.
KSP says at this time they’re investigating this fire on its own and will compare it to the others later on.
