Demolition of old Eggners Ferry Bridge scheduled for Monday

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the demolition of the old Eggners Ferry Bridge is scheduled for Monday morning.

Spokesperson Keith Todd says they will implode the four main spans at 6:30 a.m. Two other spans will be removed by crane at a later date.

About 15 minutes before the blasts are set to begin traffic will be halted on the new US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge. The bridge is expected to be reopened around 6:45 a.m.

Those who want to watch the bridge implosion can do so from the Kenlake State Resort Park amphitheater which is located on the Marshall County side of the river. We will also be live from the site of the blast and will be streaming online.

The old Eggners Ferry Bridge was closed to traffic earlier this year after being in service since 1932.
