Teen killed when truck crashes into tractor in southern Illinois

An unnamed 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash on Dahlgren Road in Hamilton County, Illinois, Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:40 p.m. Friday. Illinois State Police say the teen was driving a 1975 Chevrolet truck west on Dahlgren Road about half a mile east of Illinois Route 142 when he started to pass a vehicle traveling in front of him.

Troopers say the teen applied his brakes and slid into the eastbound lane of the road, crashing into a 2014 New Holland farm tractor.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the tractor didn’t report any injuries, troopers say.

An ISP crash reconstruction officer has been assigned to the crash investigation.

ISP District 19 says it was assisted at the crash scene by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Hamilton County EMA, Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, McLeansboro Police Department, Dahlgren Fire Department and Harre’s Ambulance Service.
