Car overturns into creek, three people sent to the hospital

Three people were sent to the hospital after a car overturned into a creek.

McCracken County deputies responded to a car crash at the intersection of Blandville Road and North Gum Springs Road around 3:30 Saturday morning.

Four people were inside the car when the driver, Melody Vandriver, 21, tried to turn around thinking she was going the wrong way.  She told deputies she pulled into North Gum Springs Road and was backing onto Blandville Rd when she backed off the roadway at the end of a culvert and overturned in a creek on the north side of Blandville Road.

Derek Wissinger, 23, of Cairo, Illinois, was in the back seat and attempted to jump from the vehicle as it was overturning and was hit by the vehicle.  He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Tanner McElmurry, 21, of Benton, Kentucky was also a back passenger and was able to get out of the car.  He was taken to the hospital for observation.

Erin Sullivan, 21 of Paducah, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
