Hardin man allegedly headbutts deputy

A Marshall County sheriff’s sergeant says he was headbutted by a Hardin man he was arresting.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office says on Saturday around 3:43 p.m., a sergeant and a Benton police officer were called to 4th Street in Hardin on reports of a disturbance.

50-year-old Paul Deuerling allegedly assaulted someone in the home and fired a shotgun through a wall.

The sergeant says Deuerling resisted arrest and headbutted him in the chest.

Deuerling was subdued and taken to the Marshall County Hospital for treatment before being taken to the Marshall County Detention Center.

He was charged with assault 3rd degree – police officer, assault 4th degree, and resisting arrest.
