Deputies looking for inmate who did not return from approved furlough

The Pope County Sheriff’s Department is asking for helping finding an escapee.

Sheriff Jerry Suits says 27-year-old Matthew Werner did not return to the Saline County Jail in Harrisburg, Illinois Wednesday night.

Werner was on an approved furlough and had agreed to turn himself in before 7:30 p.m.

Werner was last seen in Saline County by family members around 8:00 p.m.

He was wearing blue jeans, a brown t-shirt, and black tennis shoes.

Werner is 5’11" and weighs approximately 215 pounds.

He has a full beard but may have shaved it off.

Werner was sentenced to 8 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for residential burglary.
