Girlfriend: Man had no chance to drop knife before shooting
The girlfriend of a black man fatally shot by white officers in Kentucky says the man had no time to respond to commands to drop his knife before police opened fire.
The victim, identified by relatives as Darnell Thomas Wicker, was killed at a Louisville apartment complex Monday when police responded to a domestic disturbance.
Police Chief Steve Conrad says officers Taylor Banks and Beau Gadegaard are on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The Louisville Metro Police Department released graphic body camera video of officers shouting "drop it" several times. Within four seconds, eight shots are fired.
Wicker’s girlfriend, Anita Louise Jones, said Tuesday the first responding officer reacted calmly. She says two more officers rushed past with guns drawn, ordered Wicker to drop the knife and immediately opened fire.
