ISP: Woman injured when car hits bus

A woman was taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle wreck involving a bus in Williamson County on Thursday afternoon, according to Illinois State Police.

The wreck happened at 1:08 p.m. Thursday. The Illinois State Police says the 2008 Chevrolet 30-passenger bus was headed northbound on Bandyville Road in Herrin when it stopped at a railroad crossing near Travis Court. Then, troopers say, a 2006 Toyota Corolla traveling behind the bus failed to stop and collided with it.

Troopers say the driver of the Toyota, 40-year-old Stacy Meracle of Herrin, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the bus, 51-year-old Laurie Mosier of Cypress, Illinois, was uninjured.

The northbound lane of Bandyville Road was closed for about a half hour for crash investigation and roadway cleanup. Troopers say the bus was able to be driven away, but the Toyota had to be towed from the scene.
