TBI investigating Dollar General death as homicide

A fatal fire is now being investigated as a homicide.

On July 27, Martin, Tennessee fire crews were called to a local Dollar General for an early morning fire. While there, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says crews found the body of 59-year-old Ruby Rachel Tackett.

TBI tells WPSD they’re still waiting on an autopsy report, which could take several weeks, but they are investigating the death as a homicide and the fire as arson.

Employees at the store tell us Tackett was the manager there for several years and was known to go in early.

TBI says multiple agencies are on the case including the Martin Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

As of now, TBI says no one is in custody.

We will bring you details as new information is released.
