School board decides to lower property tax

You’ll save some money on your property tax bill in McCracken County. That was the decision of the McCracken County school board Thursday night.

An assessment in January shows properties within the school district increased in value. To keep the money the school district receives the same, the compensating rate for taxes dropped to 51.6 percent. That means if your home is valued at $100,000, you’ll save $8 a year.

If your home is valued at $200,000, you’ll save $16 a year.
