Deputies: Alcohol and prescription meds contribute to US Highway 45 crash

A Paducah woman is facing several felony charges after a crash on US Highway 45 Saturday night. 

McCracken County deputies say Jennifer Smith, 49, of Paducah, was driving her car on US Highway 45 and was attempting to cross the highway and pulled into the path of John Farris, 33, of Mayfield, who was also driving on 45.  Smith hit Farris in the front driver side causing her to spin and hit a guardrail.

Farris and two passengers were not hurt. Smith was taken to the hospital.

There were also two people in Smith’s vehicle.  One person was treated at Western Baptist, the other was not treated for injuries.  Deputies say Smith was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication.  Deputies say alcohol and drugs were the main contributing factors to the crash.

Smith faces 5 counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of criminal mischief, one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/ alcohol, one count of assault and one count of failing to notify of address change.
