Man arrested on charge of sexual abuse of a child

A man was arrested on a charge of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 years old Tuesday, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.

The abuse is alleged to have happened on July 28th, and the sheriff’s department says it got a complaint accusing the man on July 31. Deputies say 46-year-old David Averitt of Paducah abused the child while he was watching the child at his home.

Deputies say the child was interviewed as part of the investigation into the accusation, and an arrest warrant was issued after investigators consulted with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

Averitt was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 23, and charged with first degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 years of age.
