Community rallies to get shelter dog a home
Community members from around southern Illinois are coming together to help one longtime shelter dog get his forever home.
Wheeler is a happy, friendly pit bull. He’s been living at the Perry County Humane Society for the past three years, and there’s finally a family that wants to adopt him. But the family has a special needs child, which means Wheeler needs special training before he can move in.
SIT Service Dogs Director Lex Dietz is organizing a fundraiser to help cover some of the cost for Wheeler’s training through a trivia night. She says she’s seen this loveable pup get passed over year after year, and she wants to help him get to a loving home.
"It’s unusual that a dog finds somebody willing to put the time. This family is so willing to put the time and effort into him, and he needs a home. Every dog needs a home. He’s been there for three years, that’s too long," says Dietz.
If you want to help raise money for Wheeler’s training, just head to Brews Bros. Taproom in Murphysboro Friday, Aug. 26. The trivia nights starts at 7 p.m., but they’ll have a silent auction and more. Wheeler is also expected to attend the event.
