Fire damages home of local coach, responders work to save family pet

The home of a local basketball coach sustained major damage in the Lone Oak area of McCracken County Thursday night in a fire.

The home belongs to West Kentucky Community and Technical College basketball coach Mike Chumbler. Our crew at the scene has learned that two players also live there.

Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze. The family dog at the home was missing at first. When the pet was found, firefighters began to administer CPR. The dog was revived, and responders have taken it to a local veterinarian.

A family friend tells our crew that the puppy, named Chico, has been taken to Ceglinski Animal Clinic in Paducah.

We will bring you more on this story as details emerge.
