Woman dies after suffering serious injuries during altercation

A Murray, Kentucky woman who was severely injured in an altercation died from her injuries on Saturday.

The altercation happened Thursday around 8:22 p.m. at a home just west of Kirksey.

Calloway County Sheriff’s deputies found 39-year-old Rhonda G. Runyon lying on the floor with serious injuries.

Also at the scene was 35-year-old Christopher L. Smith of Murray. He told deputies that they had been in an altercation.

Runyon was airlifted to a Nashville hospital. She died on Saturday from her injuries.

Smith was arrested at the time and charged with first degree assault.

He will be arraigned Monday morning and it is expected that the charges will be amended at that time.

Smith remains in the Calloway County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.

An investigation is ongoing.
