Elizabethtown man injured in crash involving police cruiser and ATV

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash involving an ATV and a police squad car in Rosiclare.

Troopers say on Sunday around 3:11 p.m., Rosiclare Police Officer Greg Robinson saw a four-wheeler driving on Walnut Street towards 5th Street.

The officer activated his emergency lights to stop the ATV.

The driver of the ATV didn’t stop and tried to get away by turning right onto 5th Street. As he was turning, the four-wheeler hit the police cruiser and rolled over.

The rider of the ATV, 44-year-old David Thomas of Elizabethtown, was thrown from the four-wheeler. He was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. His condition was unknown at this time.

The police officer was not injured.

Troopers say alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
