Preregistration begins for Rend Lake Cleanup volunteering event
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it wants to invite you to the 30th Rend Lake Cleanup event, which is coming up in September.
In a news release sent Tuesday, the corps said this year’s theme is "Get Dirty and Celebrate 30." The cleanup event is one of more than 2,000 across the country that will participate in National Public Lands Day celebrations on Sept. 24.
National Public Lands Day is being held to thank volunteers, and the corps says anyone volunteering at National Public Lands Day 2016 events with the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the USDA Forest Service, will get a free coupon.
For the Rend Lake Cleanup, you can preregister to participate by calling 618-742-2493 or emailing email@example.com. You can also get registration packets at the Rend Lake Project Office & Visitor Center on the west end of the main dam, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. You can also register at the event itself.
The schedule for the 2016 Rend Lake Cleanup is:
– Registration at the Spillway Group Area, at the east end of the Rend Lake dam, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
– Roadside litter pickup from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
– Free lunch provided by Benton, Illinois, Kiwanis Club Foundation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
– An awards ceremony at the Rend Lake Spillway Group Area from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
