Lengthy closure scheduled at U.S. 45 bypass in Mayfield

The U.S. 45 Mayfield bypass connection between the Purchase Parkway Exit 21 interchange and U.S. 45 South at the southwest edge of Mayfield will close next week, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

KYTC says the bypass connection will close on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and stay closed into next year. However, drivers who want to head south on U.S. 45 from the parkway will be able to detour along U.S. 45-Business through Mayfield, as will folks headed north on the Purchase Parkway will have. The detour will add about 7 minutes of travel time.

Drivers headed south and north on the Purchase Parkway will still be able to use the Exit 21 interchange, but the connection to and from U.S. 45 south of Mayfield will be closed.

The closure will let a contractor perform dirt work for construction of flyover ramps and overpasses as part of an extended work zone from the 17 mile marker of the parkway to the 23 mile marker.
