Woman killed in I-24 crash as driver attempted U-Turn

Kentucky State Police say a woman from Louisville died in a crash on I-24 Saturday.

KSP responded to a two vehicle crash at the 37 mile marker near Kuttawa around 2pm.  Troopers say Leslie Cunningham, 71, of Evansville, Indiana, was driving westbound in the right-hand lane of I-24 while Joseph Mouser, 73, of Rineyville, Kentucky, was driving westbound in the left-hand lane just beside Cunningham.

KSP says Cunningham turned into the path of Mouser’s vehicle in what appeared to be an attempt to make a U-turn across I-24.

Mary Fugate, 72, of Louisville, was a passenger in Cunningham’s vehicle and received multiple blunt force injuries from the crash and died at the scene.

Cunningham was air lifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville with non-life threatening injuries.  Mouser refused treatment at the scene.

KSP continues to investigate.
