Should you skip the iPhone 7?
Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone Wednesday. Here’s why it may be a disappointment.
First, there won’t be anything dramatically new with the iPhone 7. From all accounts we’ve seen from leaked photos from China, the iPhone 7 and 7 plus will be the same size as the iPhone 6 and 6 plus.
We can sure it will be faster. New phones are always equipped with faster chips. The camera will probably be a little better than the iPhone 6s. But seriously, how much better can an iPhone camera be?
Apple is almost guaranteed to eliminate the earphone jack in the iPhone 7. In the photos, the phone is thinner.
We don’t realize now how much we need the headphone jack. I like to shoot video with my iPhone and use an external microphone to get better audio. Those mics plug into the earphone jack.
And there are devices that use the jack as well, such as smart thermometers and external lights.
Sure, there will be a dongle you can apparently get or buy separately, so you can use your old earbuds or headphones. New wireless earbuds may be included in the box.
One more thing: Next year is the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, and you can bet Apple has something planned to blow our socks off in year 10. Year 9…iPhone 7? My guess is this will be an iPhone release worth skipping. Could I be wrong? We’ll find out Wednesday.
