Crash near Cape Girardeau kills Altenburg, MO man

Cape Girardeau police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 55.

Officers say the crash happened at 5:30 a.m. on southbound I-55 about a mile north of exit 99.

The crash was between two cars.

One of the drivers, 59-year-old Carl Wayne Black of Altenburg, was found dead at the scene.

The other driver and their passenger were taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and tampering with physical evidence. Their names have not yet been released by police.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
