5th annual Dragon Boat Festival being held this weekend

Teams will race in the 5th annual Dragon Boat Festival on the Ohio River this Saturday in Paducah.

The event raises money for education programs at the River Discovery Center.

Local teams will be racing in heats by paddling dragon boats. Each boat has 16 paddlers, a dummer, and a professional steerman guiding the boat.

To allow for setup, the Broadway entrance to the riverfront will be closed to traffic on Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Kentucky entrance to the riverfront will be closed at 11:00 p.m. on Friday.

Both entrances will be reopened around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

During the event, Broadway will be closed at 2nd Street to the riverfront. Water Street will be closed between Kentucky and Broadway, and the entrance to Maiden Alley will be closed at Kentucky Avenue.

Drivers will have to go down Kentucky Avenue to Water Street and turn right to follow the road behind the Carson Center.
