State police: More than $170K found in hidden compartment of truck in trafficking case
We are getting a first look tonight at a Kansas man who was arrested in west Kentucky earlier this month on drug trafficking charges.
State troopers arrested 28-year-old Valentin Serrano-Balcazar of Kansas City, Kansas, on Thursday, Sept. 15, after a traffic stop on Interstate 24 near Kuttawa led to the discovery of half a gram of crystal methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, $23,442 cash they say was "concealed in a way consistent with trafficking." He was charged with first degree methamphetamine trafficking, first degree possession of a controlled substance on the first offense, and buying/possessing drug paraphernalia.
Serrano-Balcazar was jailed in the Caldwell County Detention Facility.
On Monday, Sept. 26, state police announced that a more detailed search has been conducted at KSP Post 1. Troopers say that search revealed a hidden compartment in the vehicle containing an additional $172,345. KSP sent Local 6 a mugshot for Serrano-Balcazar on Monday, as well as photos of items troopers say they found in the truck.
