Police: man who reported fire charged with arson

Murray police say a local man is charged with second degree arson and third degree burglary regarding a fire at a maintenance building that happened early Tuesday morning.

Police say 22-year-old Matthew Kohlenberger of Murray reported the fire at a maintenance building at Coach Estates. After Murray firefighters put out the fire, police say it appeared to investigators that the building’s door was forced open and the fire was intentionally set.

Officers say Kohlenberger was interviewed and items were found leading them to believe Kohlenberger set the fire. He was detained and questioned, after which he was charged with second degree arson and third degree burglary —both are felony offenses.

Police say they found multiple yard tools during the investigation that they believe were stolen, but not reported stolen. If yard tools were recently stolen from you, you can call the Murray Police Department at 270-753-1621.
