Coke plant adding new businesses as Mellow Mushroom construction continues
PADUCAH, Ky —
Sue Clark is no stranger to Paducah’s Coke plant.
"I’d always watched the lights change when we would stop there at the corner," she told Local 6.
So it came as no surprise that, when the owners were looking for tenants, she jumped on board. "As soon as I heard somebody was going to try to do something here, I immediately had an interest," Clark said.
She plans to use some space to expand her downtown Ice Cream Factory business. Her goal is to open by the end of the year.
Construction is ongoing for the Mellow Mushroom. Coke plant owner Ed Musselman said there’s no open date set yet, but other businesses inside the plant are brewing up success. "We’ve been welcomed by the community tenfold. We did not expect this amount of growth as quickly," said Grace Yocum.
She’s a manager at Pipers Tea and Coffee. It was one of the first new businesses to move in. She said the owner has plans to expand, but nothing new to announce.
"You get to know a lot of stories. A lot of different people get to know your story. Just kind of embodies the whole nature of a small town," Yocum said.
It’s a small town feel with some big shoes to fill in a space rich with history. It’s winning combination for Clark. "I just like keeping Paducah alive," she told Local 6.
