Man arrested regarding multiple Scott County auto thefts

A man was arrested Monday in connection with in a string of car thefts, according to the Scott County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office. 

Sheriff Rick Walter says 20-year-old Sherman Watson of Chaffee, Missouri, has been charged with two counts of first degree tampering with a motor vehicle. 

Walter says his office got a report about an abandoned vehicle and trailer at a home in Scott City early Monday morning, which investigators determined had been stolen from a Scott City farm. A vehicle was also reported stolen from the home where the first abandoned vehicle and trailer were found. 

During the investigation, Walter says a deputy found yet a third stolen vehicle abandoned a short distance away. 

Not long after, the sheriff says, a deputy found Watson walking in that general area. Walter says Watson had keys to two of the automobiles on him. 

Watson was arrested and jailed in the Scott County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
